2019 VHA Owner's Economic Summit
Current and future veterinary practice owners face a unique set of challenges that come with owning a business.
Veterinary practice owners, associate DVMs, and practice managers are invited to join us for the third annual VHA Owner's Economic Summit, an unforgettable educational event September 15-16, 2019, at Madden's on Gull Lake in Brainerd, MN.
We will dive into the fundamentals of business for future practice owners and managers, uncover the business challenges practice owners face, and strategies to overcome them.
Get Away at Madden's on Gull Lake
Get away from the hustle and bustle at Madden's on Gull Lake, a classic Minnesota luxury resort experience. Come early to enjoy the wonderful amenities the resort offers, including trapshooting, waterskiing, horseback riding, zip line tours, and more.
Event check-in is at 2:30 PM and everyone is invited to join VHA for lawn games and pontoon boat rides from 3:30 PM - 6:30 PM. Additional leisure activities will not be offered, but you are welcome to plan ahead and make reservations.
Hotel check-in is at 4:30 PM. Check-out is at 11:00 AM.
Double the Speakers, Double the Tracks, Double the Learning
Dr. Michael Dicks, former AVMA Director of Veterinary Economics, and Dr. Melissa Maddux, owner of Erupt, LLC, will be leading two tracks this year.
Track One - "Grow Your Practice Like a Doc" with Melissa Maddux, DVM (7 CE)
Track Two - "Taking the Pulse of Your Practice" with Michael Dicks, PhD (7 CE)
First-time attendees will participate in Track 1 while previous Economic Summit attendees, those who attended Dr. Maddux's track at the 2018 VHA Expo, and those who have previously attended VHA Finance CE events will participate in Track 2.
This year, we are inviting all veterinary practice owners, associate DVMs, and practice managers to this exclusive VHA member only event.
It's free for the first 100 DVM practice owners to attend and only $120.00 for associate DVMs, practice managers, and DVM owners after the initial 100 to attend. All other guests are $175.00. You may register associate DVMs, practice managers, and additional DVM owners under in one registration and will only be invoiced for the appropriate amount (example: one DVM practice owner and their guest who is the practice manager would be charged $120.00).
About the Speakers
Michael Dicks, Ph.D.
Dr. Mike Dicks holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Missouri and a B.S. in Biochemistry and Animal Science from California Polytechnic State University.
Before joining AVMA as the Director of Veterinary Economics, Dr. Dicks owned and operated Cimarron Dunes, a 100-head capacity Angus cow-calf operation, and has previously held positions at the Oklahoma State University and USDA's Economic Research Service.
Melissa Maddux, DVM
Dr. Melissa Maddux is a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine and CEO of Erupt. Through Erupt, Dr. Maddux works with students, practice owners, consultants, universities, and associations to empower innovative humans and improve financial performance in the profession.
Melissa completed a fellowship between the University of Tennessee and the American Veterinary Medical Association Economics Division where she received advanced training in equine sports medicine and rehabilitation, veterinary economics and finance. A serial entrepreneur, Melissa brings a unique perspective to the veterinary profession. Along with owning several small businesses, she has consulted for companies throughout the United States and South Africa, built educational tools, and developed business programs for colleges of veterinary medicine.
CE CreditsAttendees can earn up to 8.5 CE credits.
Registration closes on August 14, 2019. Due to resort rules and restrictions, no registrations or requests for refunds will be accepted after this date.
Clinics will be invoiced for any additional guests and rooms once registration is complete.
In the event of cancellations, attendees may receive a 100% refund through July 14. After July 14, only a 50% refund will be issued. After August 14, no refund will be given. Attendees who do not show on the day of the event will incur the cost of the room and guest fee (if applicable), which will be reflected on your October billing statement from VHA.
